For and electrical problem like this, first check the battery condition by testing the electrolyte with a hydrometer.
Recharge the battery as necessary and load test the battery after it is fully charged.
It is normal for the battery to discharge when the vehicle sits for a longer period of time. There is a service bullitin about the body control module not shutting down after the normal 20 minute timeout.
There are also other components that also remain active after the key is turned off so a test with an ameter for the key off drain is necessary. The tech should be familiar with that proceedure and if not, then it can be found on the internet or I can provide it for you.
The exhaust smell is likely not connected to the electrical problem. This is a catyletic converter generated smell that may or may not be normal. Have the tech look at it too while it is in the shop.
