i have an 86 gmc suburban in 2 wheel drive that i halled my 76 cobra from mass. to tenn. no trouble then the wife decided to go get feed at the local farmers co-op. she came home with feed all the way from the front seats to the tailgate, and it amounted to abuot 2500 lbs of feed. \
the trucks wheel wells wear on top of the tires, but it didn't bother the truck any. i went and bought air shocks the next day and she has halled everthing from ponys in the back seat, to flat bed with a ford f 150 on it all the way down into alabama. no problems except for the hills, 350 was a little slow on the hills.
we still own this truck and it has the tailgate, just bought the wife a 94 suburban 4x4 with barn doors, we both prefer the barn doors. i bought her this with the idea she would let me get rid of the 86, she wont. she loves the old burban, weight empty is 6,600 lbs it will haul just about anything, over 350,000 miles and still strong, little rust i'm fixing now. dam thing is a tank.
the 94 weights 5,600 lbs, hauled a four horse stock trailer with it and was completely happy, (maybe i can finaly get rid of the 86, maybe not) no matter witch burban you buy you should be happy with it, unless you plan on a lot of heavy duty hauling if you are get the 454, 3/4 ton.
we own a farm now in maine and the burbs are the best farm trucks we have ever ouned. we had a farm in tenn. also.
