Show me in any service repair manual for any vehicle built a hill holding test and i'll quit my job and sing show tunes for a living!!!! As far as having a hard shift take the vehicle to a Qualified Dealership (Ask around for people who had good luck with a particular Dealer) and just have them check for any stored DTC's. These transmissions are very sensitive to shifting problems. if there are any codes set it raises line pressure to maximum to avoid further damage. If there are no codes set there is NO PROBLEM.

As far as overhauling transmissions if it is under warranty it must be removed and dissassembled for inspection if it is cheaper to rebuid it then that is what must be done NOT just replaced. And yes ALL GM transmissions are rebuilt by someone else stictly for GM mostly in Mexico, THANKS NAFTA.

If it is a customer pay transmission overhaul it usually is replaced rather than rebuilt, only because you get a better warranty with a replacement 3 years 50,000 miles, as compared to 12 months 12,000 miles for an in house overhaul. NOW SHUT YOUR CAKE HOLE YOU WHINERS!!!!!!!!!
You know, I would take your advice and go to a qualified dealer if there was one. but since there is only 1 GM dealer in the area, it makes it a bit hard, especially when you have dealt with them in the past and are not totally satisfied with the results. It's easy for you to sit here and write mean mouthed comments to concerned people who have not had good luck with their Impalas. We bought this car in good faith and we expect the transmission to last longer than 50,000 miles. We are not 20 year old who have never had a car before. We have had approximately 8 new cars in the 42 years we have been married. Not ONE of them had a tranny go out while we had them and we put over 50,000 miles on all of them. It seems to me when any number of people have the same problem with a vehicle, regardless of the brand, they is probably a problem with that vehicle. Now if GM won't stand behind their product, as in our case, 1400 miles past warranty, it doesn't say much for them.
I think it is very "unfair" of you to criticize our very real concerns.
Also, not everybody in the world can just fork over 85 to 90 bucks an hour to see what the problem might be. In our case, when both of us are unemployed, it would mean a bank loan and try and get one when you are out of work. Downsizing is a _ itch! You at least are probably working.
