Got a 91 V6 Camry I'm fixing for a friend, though I'm not exactly a master mechanic. Quite suddenly the transmission started slipping and it was very reluctant to go into first, and when it does, it doesn't seem to go in all the way, but the car still moves if you give it enough gas, then it shudders, and pops into second very violently. The gears above first don't seem to behave a reluctantly as the first one. A friend told me to drain the transmission and change the transmission screen filter, refill, and it should loosen up those gears. I did this, which it did need pretty badly, but after running through all of the gears several times it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Should I tell my friend to get a new car, or is there a relatively inexpensive solution to this?
