I love the Callaway Sledgehammer with its monster V8..

BUT it is not the PRODUCTION CAR record holder by definition..

The speed of 256MPH you are quoting below WAS achieved, and verified, and RESPECTED by all motorsport lovers.. But this car is not a road going car by definition..

It has not been registered ANYWHERE in the world other than USA I understand.. Maybe an Arab Sheik has had a go in Dubai, but other than that etc..

Also, if you stop and think of it, the Sledgehammer was almost a drag car that was specifically built in the USA and I dont believe more than 10 (2?) were made..

Dont get me wrong, because I think the Sledgehammer is awesome but if you start suggesting that mainstream production cars (more than 50 made) are getting done over like this, you are missing the point..

on a side note, a friends Rotary (Capella) in Australia held the national record for the 1/4 mile during the mid-90's and he could have smoked a McLaren up to 150MPH... but then again, it rattled, smelt, didnt have any passenger seats, and damaged your Retina's because of the dodgy launch control he loved so much...

it's fair to say that his <9 second rotary would murder the Sledgehammer on takeoff.... *just a thought*
