I like the idea of a two battery system for running the inverter so that in case I run the battery down I still have a spare battery with enough juice to start the truck. Unfortunately there is not enough room under the hood for two batteries, hence the battery box in the rear. It also can come in handy to be able to recharge a trolling motor battery without having to find an ac outlet.
One thing I'm not certain about is something that I read about high output alternators. It said that at idle a high output alternator will not give you more power than a regular alternator. That you would need to install a larger alternator to get the higher recharge rate at idle. I need to be able to recharge the battery at idle in the minimal amount of time.
