Someone else will have to talk about whether a higher voltage coil is worth it, I tend to stick with OEM level replacement parts.

I give my Metro a tune-up once a year in November or December that includes: plugs (AC Delco), distributor cap and rotor, PCV value, air cleaner, ignition wires (if needed) and fuel filter (if needed).

Oil (5w30) and oil filter is changed every 3K miles. Usually do an EGR cleaning and put a shot of injector cleaner in the gas tank at this time also.

I still notice that mileage drops 4-5 mpg over the winter - I think due to the cold and additives used in the gas.
