Seriously though! They are the equivalent of Shocks, they are dampers. What they do is DAMP the springs movement. when they are shot or if they weren't there, there would be nothing to stop the spring doing what it wants to do naturally bounce uncontrollably! instead of reaing thet excerpt CRJ left!
