Regarding the 4WD indicator light problem, my '97 did the same thing a couple of years ago. I had brought it to the dealer to troubleshoot a rear ABS annoyance and the technician said he can fix the 4WD light. By removing the skid plate you can see the indicator electrical switch (a couple of wires and a couple of vacuum hoses attached). Since my 4WD worked too, he first cleaned it and then adjusted the height of the switch using a new washer around the round ball switch. Worked good, only charged me for a 1/2 hour labor and I haven't had a problem since. I never did find out why the switch got out of adjustment though. Since it hangs so low, I might have had some hard pack snow jammed behind there at some point. thought I'd pass this on in case you want to attempt to check the switch yourself.
