I pulled the bulb out of the socket, looked it over and found the problem.. The socket melted the metal conductor strip into the plastic base of the bulb. I replaced the bulb and it's working for now, but I know I need to get a new socket. How the hell do I go about taking out an old one and putting a new one in??!!

I had the exact same problem and it was a bad socket, the only solution is to replace the bulb socket. It's very easy, it takes about 3 min. to change. All you have to do is unplug the the socket from wire and plug in a new one, in my case I just went to a pull it yourself yard and got one and I haven't had a problem since (a year ago).
