Re: How much should I sell my 944 for? (25,000 original miles)

The Edmunds website can help you evaluate selling and buying prices based on you geographical location, condition, mileage, etc......

I think it might be somewhat misleading. I figure that they probably (and all the other books... NADA, Blue Book......) get their data from the tax records. I'd bet that alot of dishonest people cheat when it comes time to pay the sales tax.

This is where it gets kinda neat........

Here in Florida... Martin County 6% sales tax, so its $60 dollars on every thousand. You said that you paid 10 thousand. Here when you register (if private sale) you would have to pay the $600 sales tax. Thats a bite! So you might be inclined to get creative and have a gentelmans deal with the seller. You buy the car for 5 thousand and the cigarette lighter for another five thousand..... Bill of sale for the car says 5 thousand now and you saved 300! Great thinking! What a businessman! Shrewd...

Here's the Karma..... Let say for arguments sake that 40% of the private sales do something like I suggest. Reality.... 80-90% wouldnt surprise me. But we'll go with 40%.......
100 Porshch 944 sell in this time frame.
60 sales claim $10K each
40 sales claim $5K each
standby while i remember how to do the math.........

Average selling price of those 944 would be reported as $8000 by nada, blue book, edmunds, etc. You may have saved $300 at first but contributed to the depreciation of your car by $2000.....shrewd business people...hehe ha ha ha ha ha

ONE LIE LEADS TO ANOTHER...... the next hundred cars selling for now $8000, 40% lie again (claim $4000) Your car is now reported as worth $6400

Have a nice day!
