just so you know the only way you can clear the ecu is by using an obdII scanner on obdII equipped vehicles, on obdI you can disconnect the battery and clear the ecu but not on obdII, so even though the check engine light may not be on (assuming you tried to clear the ecu by disconnect the battery) you will still have the code stored in the ecm.
