Pushing it in top gear?
or
Limiting it in neutral?
Strange questions but due to being only 16 and not driving and having a dad who has no faith in his car some questions just need to be asked!

A 10 year old car is about 60 in people years...or akin to a comfortable old saddle horse

If it has been reasonably maintained, and you drive it respectfully(<5000 rpm) it should provide many more years of fine service

If you rev it to 7000 rpm and do little toy burnout chirps it will soon be glue...
