Do you need the heat shield on? I took it off because it had developed some cracks but that was way after this noise started so the two are not related (hopefully). Thanks for all your help so far.

the heat shield is not mandatory and a lot of people that put on custom headers remove it so people can see their bling haha... I leave mine on cuz my stock header pipes are rusty ass. (:
