1970-78 S30 Datsun Z.

That covers the 70-73 240z, the 74-74.5 260z and the 75-78 280z. 2300lbs, 2500lbs, 2800lbs respectively.

Stay away from the 1979-1983 S130 280zx's. Comfy cars, but a bit too heavy.


Anywho, they're lightweight RWD coupe/hatchbacks as you know. And have excellent aftermarket support.

Take a 240z, swap in a 280zxt motor. The L28E-T, add intercooler and some boosty goodies. And you've got an easy 13 second car (with room to go faster) that can be made to handle extremely well.

And if you play your cards right, you can probably buy a 240z with everything done that i've mentioned within your budget. Or you can build one for the same price if you get 90% of your stuff off Ebay.
