The Mass air sensor is probally shot or dirty. it's on the intake tube, Right after the air filter. The injectors are the same between both years.
actually the engine are the same for 94/95 and in 96 they had a very minor change. all the v6's form 94-98 are interchangable. The v6 shortblock from 99+ can be used with the heads and intake from 94-98.
