I recently replaced the stock tires on my 02 Pathfinder with Cooper Discoverer S/T tires... went to a 245/70R17. They are very snug, but do fit. A little bit of rubbing on the inside plastic fender well when in reverse and with the wheels turned sharply... ie backing out of a parking space. As long as you don't mind a little noise there, it doesn't do any harm. I can't imagine going to a 265 as you mention unless you had offset rims. Even then I believe you'd have rubbing problems. Plus you sure don't want to get any taller than the tires I put on. I'm very happy with the tires and the extra inch or inch-and-a-half of ground clearance that I picked up, but fuel mileage has gone in the crapper. I knew the extra height would hurt, but since the difference was only about 7%, I was surprised by losing 2-3 mpg in town. Having 17 inch rims kinda sucks, because it REALLY limits tire options.
