I would focus a bit on the linkage, spray the whole think. Also spray the choke well and move it about, see it moves freely, you know, make sure you don't feel any grinding or that sort of thing. Try adjusting your valves. They might be a bit out of wack. And check the idle and the timing. Do as much as you can before re-building the carb.
