Wow, what a coincidence to see your post. I am actually on my second BMW and am thinking HARD about an LS 400 as a second car. PLEASE--tell me how you like it! I have never driven an LS 400 but have heard so much praise about it--smooth, quiet, fast, etc. After losing my Legend (which held ME over after my first Bimmer), I actually MISS having a Japanese car, so I am looking to possess the best of both worlds in the near future. Also, see my other post about gas mileage.

Here are some specs for you:

4.0-liter 32-valve V-8
250 hp @ 5300 rpm
260 lbs.-ft. torque @ 4500 rpm.
aluminum alloy block and head
Bore/Stroke: 3.44 x 3.25 in.
10.4:1 compression ratio
sequential multi-point fuel injection
4-speed automatic, rear wheel drive

Original list price: $38,000

Wheelbase, in.: 110.8
Length, in.: 196.7
Width, in.: 72.0

0-60 mph, 8.1 sec.
0-1/4 mi., 16.1 sec.

Production numbers:
1990: ? first year for LS 400, and for Lexus
1991: 36,955
1992: 32,561
1993: 23,783 new 16" wheels, pass. air bag, light styling freshening
1994: 22,433
1995: 23,657 full redesign w. updated styling, 260 hp/270 lbs.-ft.
1996: 22,237
1997: ?
1998: 20,790 new wheels, more shapely headlights, 290 hp
1999: 16,357
2000: 15,871 last year before 2001 redesign to become LS 430

Hope this helps--I am a car fanatic, plus I just bought the "Standard Catalog of Imported Cars, 1946-2002".
