I'm failing to understand something here. You obviously have a lot of distaste towards this person, yet refer to him as your friend. To me this says one of two things:
1. You like him but are envious of what he has, therefore hating for what you don't have.
or
2. You have real issues with the way he flaunts his money around (i.e. the way he acts about it by making sure you know that he DOES have money).
I'm leaning more towards option one. Perhaps you could clarify this for me. If you are envious of a friend because of what he has and you don't, you need to grow up. If he treats his things like shit, that's his own ignorance. I mean, yeah it's frustrating, but you aren't the one fitting the bill for the new things, his parents are. THEY need to realize the mistake, not you. I've got friends who have way more than I'll ever have as far as material possessions, but that isn't why I'm friends with them, and I don't hate them because of it. I value their friendship, not what they have that I don't.
