Re: Motor Oil For High Mileage Vehicles

I currently have 129K soon rolling to 130K, and I just use regular Havoline 10W-30 with an Isuzu oil filter.

I personally would not use a high mileage oil - (for my vehicle) for 2 reasons, I don't trust adding any additives to my oil. And for another, I know the history of this particular vehicle being the original owner, and oil/filter has been religiously changed at every 3K interval.

Gaskets and seals do wear out, that's a given, but I believe with very frequent oil changes and doing it yourself, i.e. dealerships & other places are notoriously known for putting a full quart extra into these engines; that you can prevent many problems with seals/gaskets.

As an example, I believe time and miles led to the eventual leaking of my valve cover gaskets 3 yrs ago - roughly 95K miles at the time; but it was kind of funny how they started leaking after I had Big O change my oil/filter - something I normally did myself, but just didn't have time when it needed it.

Sure enough, they had admitted to putting almost 7 qrts of oil in the truck when I noticed it leaking oil 2 days after their work. Again, my fault, as I should've checked it before I left the parking lot.

Replaced the valve gaskets, and never again will I go anywhere.
