If you don't want to take the valve cover and timing cover off to check the belt you can just take the distributer (dizzy) cap off and see if the rotor turns when you start the car. If the rotor doesn't turn your timing belt probably snapped.
While you're there you can check to see if the rotor screw fell out (causing the rotor to stop turning and in turn causing the engine to stop). GL

i have my timing belt cover off long time ago. the belt didnt snap, i tried to test for 12v on the distributor. but i only see one wire lights up, the rest dont.
