Wow a carb
Well this still hold true to carbs also Long crank times 9 out of 10 times = lack of fuel.
After the truck sits for a long time I want you to go to the carb and look down it while moveing the throttle (engine off) is there any fuel spray???.
The fuel pump could be back feeding the fuel out of the carb or the float in the carb is bad or the needle and set are bad not letting the right amount of fuel into the carb. I have seen base gaskets go bad and they suck a lot of air in and run lean. Grab the carb with both hands and try to move it twist it.Is this a auto trans or 5 speed .Timming different for autos and standerds. Yes timing decal is on the fan shroud
Post what you find and we will go from there
