Yes there was, the six cylinder engine used in the 700 series was known as the "RPV" motor. Standing for; Renault, Peugeot, Volvo. It was used in 760s and 780s but was not too popular among Volvo enthusiasts. This is also the same motor John put in his famed Delorian; mid-engined, stainless steel, gull winged door "spots car?". I think he got a good deal on the engines because the three RPV companies knew they some boat anchors on their hands.
Delorian also used some GM sixes but the RPV is actualy the one that collectors pay more for!

I've driven a couple cars (Volvos) with these motors in them and found them smooth and torquey, but not near as much fun as a souped up turbo motor can be! SLEEPER CITY
