Re: New parts..

72, it wasn't to make fun of you, so don't take it like that. If you haven't installed the cam yet, SEND IT BACK. You won't be happy with it. It's actually smaller than the cam that Pontiac put in there. There's no price difference between the two. The XE262H is a mild-mannered, smooth idle cam. As I said, we use it in "stockers". That is, engines where the owner wants the engine to sound and "act" stock. It's not TOO "high performance". It will work with all the stock valve train.
If you have already installed it, you're gonna have to use it. BUT... If you used the Comp timing set (2112 or 3112), go back in and set the cam to 4 degrees retarded. This will raise the power band a bit, and not give you such a big low-end "hit".
If you buy the Magnum rockers, stick with the 1.52:1 ratio. There are modifications necessary to the heads if you use the 1.65:1s.
I'm sure you've heard it before, but "trust me on this one". Pontiacs are my main thing, and as it happens, my main business. About 60 percent of the engines we build here are Pontiacs (not Chevys with "Pontiac" heads on them, but REAL Pontiacs, like the one in your GTO).
Best of luck, whatever you decide. Feel free to e-mail me about any specific questions you may have.
