TOOLS: 2 #2 flathead screwdrivers, steering wheel puller, and lockplate remover. Using a small makeup mirror or some kind of mirror, look behind the wheel to find I believe to be 4 slots. Use the screwdrivers to insert into the slots to disengage the locking bars which retain the airbag assembly in the steering wheel. Before that though, disconnect the yellow airbag connectors underneath your dash, as they are clearly marked. Use the steering wheel remover for the obvious. You should then be able to separate the two halfs of the column plastic to expose the turn signal switch. This is the procedure for my 96 z71. I believe it is the same for you. The airbag should have a shunt build into the connector to keep static electricity from building up and possibly deploying the airbag. But I would disconnect it for safety anyway.
