I don't think pulling the cable off the gear hurts it if your careful about how you shove it back in there. I pulled my cable out too and shoved it back in and the speedometer works fine. Try it on yours and let me know, I'm not doing anything else to mine til I get the new body and tranny for my motor. (`91 Escort LX Pony 2-door w/5-speed)

DID IT...JUST YARDED ON IT...put in one I found in the jUnk Yard (after trying 6 cars I found a 91 scort in the junker with no rust and it came out) now it shifts 1-2-3-4 . . .THANKS FOR THE INPUT GUYS....ITS ALIVE AFTER 4 MONTHS!!! (1991 Escort LX AUTO - 1994 tranny )
