Two possibilities. Warped rotors or your ABS is kicking in. However, I wouldn't expect the direction of your turn to affect either of those.

Is it all left hand turns? I ask because I've also got a 2000 4wd Suburban and there's one particular intersection that usually triggers my ABS. There's a bump in the road right at a mandatory left turn.
