Great thing about 6th gen auto trannys. The pattern goes "P R N D4 D3 2" No "1" position selection. Putting the shifter into "2" locks the car into 2nd gear no matter what's going on. Locked as in it WON'T shift up or down unless you move the shifter to another position. Putting it in "2" at a stop, will start the car off in 2nd gear for deep snow/mud type situations so you don't spin your wheels. When I put the car in "2" while auto-X'ing, it's great because it locks the car in without any worry of the tranny upshifting or downshifting on you when least expected or needed.
