Re: timing belt tensioner

Exactly what part of your tensioner went bad? I have a 92 Toy 4X4 & mine went bad, the pulley. I too went thru what you did, but went to a parts store that has a couple of smart employees-not just kids working there. He quickly pointed out that he had a large assortment of pulleys, & started looking to see if he could hook me up. Hook me up he did, I asked him how I was supposed to cahnge them out, he told me "no problem, this'll only take a minute" Bam, I', on my way home with my 'new tensioner' for $12.00!
What lead me to believe that iw was bad was cause my water pump had failed, it was leaking & squealing, so I change the water pump. The leak stopped, but the squeal didn't, leading me to the tensioner. I get home, install my 'new' part' same squeal, Man, am I whizzed now. It turns out that I got a faulty, remanu'd waterpump. I was a happy camper that I didn't go buy that tensioner from the dealer! A lesson for all with tensioner failures!
