the best way to check for exhaust leaks is to jack the car up so you can get under the whole thing, start it, and move your hands near the pipes all the way around, feeling for pulsing air. dont' touch the pipes, they can burn you pretty badly, especially the cats.
Yup, just be carefull not to get your hand too close to any holes in the exhaust the closer you get to the manifolds.
