my own word
ive been waiting to get my own word in on this for awhile without starting my own thread because i didnt want to be responsible for starting a war. Here it goes.
sr20's are usually about 2000 right, average. Throw in your shipping. truthfully i dont know what it would be but id say at least a couple of hundred dollars right?
put in the fact that your a mechanic and you can do all of the wiring and installation yourself.
add your 300+ in various parts you need (chips, spare parts on your engine that were supposed to be on the engine but arent)
what have you got, about 2500 easy thats being cheap.
now your pushin about 215 hp with an s13 or s14 sr ( you wont touch a s15 engine for less than three grand and thats just the engine)
take that money and see what you can do for your ka
do your full exhaust with 4-2-1 headers, shave your heads, poke and polish those heads. put on a decent intake. add a throttle body spacer for some turbulent air, bigger injectors (find some that are bigger and fit your car, dont buy the performance their like 500 bucks for a set),
toss on a msd sci (sport compact ignition) and some 9 or 10 mill wires add a stage 1 clutch maybe 2 depending on what your future plans are and there you go. your looking at close to 290 hp non-turboed and at the wheels. plus when it comes to holeshot we all know that that torque ridden ka will tear up that sr and with the msd no missing at high rpms and gas to get it there that narrow powerband will get wider and wider.
NOTICE i do admit a couple of downfalls of the ka number one: its f*ckin heavy this throws off the 50/50 weight ratio it has with that light aluminum block sr. also the sr is built for a turbo and therefore it withstands the effects of a turbo the ka does not. dont think that you can just throw a turbo on a ka crank the boost to 10 psi and say you got horsepower. horsepower is only horsepower if its either reliable or you have the money to rebuild it when it takes a turn for the worse AKA detonation. well thats just about all i got in me this evenin so later and i look forward to the interesting replies. peace
