okay, i'm not sure how much your chip adds, but i think you should get about 5-10 more wheel hp. Take a look at the specs on your GTI and the Mustang:

1997 Volkswagen GtI VR6
172 hp 177lb ft torque
2800lbs


1997 Ford Mustang V6
150hp 215lb ft torque
3071lbs (manual) 3154 (automatic)

Your gonna win the race. Your car has more hp, its lighter, its has mods, and it has a higher redline. The V6 mustangs are pigs and thats a fact, so you really shouldn't have any issues with beating him. I have raced new GT's and I always beat the automatics, but I can keep up with the manuals too. There is no way that his torque will give him an advantage because unless he punches it from idle he probably won't get much out of his low end. His torque peaks at 2750rpm, and from there is goes down. Hope this answers your question.
