You absolutely positively do NOT want to have the clutch in when you are cranking the car. There is no oil flow to lubricate the thrust bearing. On a 7 bolt especially, disable the clutch start safety switch. I have a toggle switch on mine, since the track DOES requrie that its in working order. My local track is very strict about safety
On both 1Gs and 2Gs, there are 2 switches on the clutch. One at the "bottom," or when the clutch is to the floor. That is the clutch start safety switch, and its the one you want to disconnect. Simply follow the wires to the connector, and unplug it. Its a pain in the ass upside down on the floor, but it will all make sense once you get an eyeball on it.
And FYI, the other switch, at the "top" of the clutches travel, is to deactivate the cruise control as soon as you touch the clutch pedal. The two connectors arent very far apart, and its easy to mix them up.
