For a good example, though they aren't typical muscle cars, take a look at Mercedes-Benz' lineup, and their performance models in particular, i.e: the CL65 AMG puts down 604hp & 738 lb-ft

(insane, i know). They're all automatics. You can't even request a manual trans in any of them. Mercedes gave the same reasoning for this as SiGNAL did above; a manual trans just wouldn't work as well as an automatic in this application. What that has to do with the topic of performance exhausts on autos, i don't know, but there ya go.
