I have a 01 Jetta and got a recall notice from VW for the brake light switch a few months ago.
Regarding the EPC light, I had a problem with that too, but it was caused by the dealer pinching the throttle body while they were replacing a defective mass airflow sensor. To get at the sensor they had to disconnect the throttle body and managed to pinch the line when they were reconnecting it. Annoying, but they fixed both problems with no charge.
