will i run into probs w/ shock/spring install?

alright i'm planning on doing a shock/spring swap in my car in the next month or so, and i want to do it myself w/ my father. neither of us have done this before, but in reviewing directions i feel pretty confident. i feel confident if everything goes as planned which i feel it may not. i have been driving around w/ blown shocks in at least the front left side of the car, and possibly front right. occasionally i'll bottom out, and i'm worried that i may be causing damage when i do that since there's really nothing absorbing the impact. what damage coudl i be causing? i just don't want to take everything apart and realize something is bent or the old strut is mashed in place or something like that that i won't be able to handle, or will need parts for that i can't just go get at auto zone.

I would love to see a special where thay show the getaways, they could call it "Worlds shortest police chases" Then Johnny Bunnell could say something like "Officer Bobby Ray Gasshall floored it but he soon found out that his Crown Vic is no match for Johnny Tran's S-2000" -jrbump
