Replacing Transmission on 96 Lumina

I'm thinking about trying to get a used transmission and replacing the one in my 96 Lumina myself. The transmission place said its a 4T60E transmission, which is pretty common.
Is this something a normal shadetree wanna-be should attempt? or is there alot of special tools or techniques that I can't figure out with a Haynes manual?

When I'm looking for a used one, am I just looking for a 4T60E? or are there different variations of those?

I've also seen a couple places that sell a book/video for rebuilding one of these. Any comments on that?

Thanks for any advice you can give me. Please tell me if I'm going to be over my head (and why).
