Tak
umi learned that he didn't need to countersteer so much while drifting. He could control the car using the accelerator instead, and that made him faster.

The whole point of C-121 was that Mako and Sayuki had used it to defeat their opponents in the past(see Extra Stage for an example). No one had been able to keep up with them through it. Takumi however, was able to pick a better cornering line through the turn, and actually gained on the girls.
