There's ALOT of programs you need to have running in the background for your computer to work properly. Before doing anything that drastic, can you tell us if you have ran any anti-virus software, or like mentioned above if you used any spyware nukers?

Knowing how much RAM you have would also be useful. (You can check that by running msinfo32. Start->Run and enter msinfo32 in the little box that pops up. RAM is listed under Physical Memory.) Let us know your total memory and your available memory.
