Won't the SRS unit throw out an error signal and illuminate the warning light? I'm assuming that if the cars were wrecked then the SRS unit will be showing an error anyway. Unless of course the SRS unit is also damaged. How wrecked were thes cars anyhow? I think the whole thing hinges upon how reliable the SRS unit is. If you're on a tight budget I wouldn't even bother with the SRS system at all. Mine threw a warning at me due to a flat battery, so rather than have it reset or risk it blowing up, I just disconnected the airbags and warning light. I've been driving without airbags for nearly 20 years, I think I can survive without them now.... The choice is yours however..
