Fuel guage going nuts
I have a question for all of you experts out there...recently, I was returning from a long trip to Arizona when, only about 5 miles after refueiling my pontiac, my fuel guage suddenly went from full to empty and the orange empty light came on...within a few minutes it popped back up to full, then later back down to empty, and so on for at least six times. As I drove, the guage barely moved, so it was really guesswork to figure out how much gas I really had left.
I refueled, and it continued to happen.
What is the problem? Is it a problem with the float in the tank? Is there a way I can repair it without taking it in to the shop?
