plug an electrical tester into the brake light socket or stud on the truck connector and check for voltage when the brake is depressed. If no voltage, then I would suspect a poor connection between the wiring harness on the truck and the brake light wires on the truck.

If voltage is present on the truck side of the harness, I would first check the trailer brake light bulbs and connections, and then check the trailer wiring harness for a bad connection or cut wire.

Also, don't forget to check the ground wire on the trailer harness for a good connection.
