I'd say leave things as they are. My pan has a crack in it near the plug. note that where the plug seats, the casting is thicker and machined, but mine is a mess - chunks missing. dealer says they have never seen the problem before and attribute it to a bad casting - problem is it's 4 years old and out of warranty. They are the only ones to have changed the oil, so if it ain't a bad casting, then it's bad mechanics. Hopefully some goodwill warranty will kick in, 'cause it sure isn't anything I've done.
