You can't just be sitting on your front porch threatening someone with a gun if they're just talking to you. The cops never saw the gun in the open. Since basically my friend was not involve in the fight the cops had no real right to hassle him about his gun. The cop could have use the excuse of checking out the Glock as a way to control the situation ie to get any firearms that were not in the hands of the cops under control. Cops aren't stupid. The gun's legal, it was not a threat to the cops, and the only time the cops saw it was when they asked my friend if he had a weapon because he saw the bulge on his left side. And he willing handed it over to the cops for them to hold.
