I found it. I think water was coming into mine from a couple different spots, but I finally eliminated all leaks. The last spot I hit with caulk was the seal around where the windshield washer tubing enters.
I think that by closing the hatch and forcing all that air into the vehicle, the air rushing out forced that seal to fail. It would only leak if I closed the hatch without opening another door first to let air escape.
I bought this car new in 1999, its taken 5 years to find and fix (2) different water leaks.
