the transfer case is on the back of the transmission thats hooked up to the driveshaft, it transfers power to the rear wheels. Basically, the transfer cases are known for leaking and can cause serious damage if it messes up, therefore mitsubishi had a safety recall, and like previously stated, take the transfer case to you dealership and see if the recall has been done, if not, they do it free of charge, and oh yea, even if it has been done and your transfer case starts leaking again, its still another free fix
