If the oil is black that means that it is doing it's job. It is picking up the deposites in the engine and suspending them instead of having them create gummy build up. If your concerned, the safest way to try to clean the engine and get the oil not so dark is to change it sooner. Do a change at 2500kms then in another 2500kms. Then your regular 5000 kms. It's up to you if you want to try an engine flush additive. Some are hard on bearing material and gaskets.  |
Thanks very much "irish30" This Taurus has been driving me "nutty" for some time. I have had to do all kinds of major repairs! The latest was new strut mounts, struts and coils in the rear.
