I have an 04 Sienna CE. The LE cost too much and didn't have anything we really wanted, but after driving an XLE demo with a backup sensor I must have one. I bought one on ebay from a dealer in Hong Kong for $90. It has 4 sensors and a distance display for the dashboard. I also bought a wireless camera from
www.x10.com for $75 and a 5 inch monitor on ebay for $85 (including shopping).
Now I am thinking about installation. I see there is a nice place for the camera on the black plastic piece that surrounds the license plate lights. It should be easy to install there if I can remove either the black plastic or, better, the large piece of plastic covering on the inside of the back door. I can feel one of the clips by putting my hand through the little access hatch for the latch. Any ideas on removing that covering? Do I just pry it off with a screwdriver?
As for the backup warning sensors, I carefully measured the positions on a Sienna XLE so I know where they go, and I have some instructions on removing the plastic bumper cover so that should go okay. Now how do I run wires to the front ceiling console for the monitor and distance readout? I am thinking I might be able to push a stiff wire through the ceiling from the back. I don't suppose they put in wiring for the backup sensors in CEs.
Any advice would be welcome!
