There is no harmony between chassis and engine if you ask me.
Granted, they do a wonderful job putting together a capable suspension package, and that, combined with the weight distribution is the premier selling point of the Miata.
Power is it's achilles heel, as there is almost none. Even their new Protege' is showing to be a superb handler, yet power delivery could be described as anemic at best!
